Ten police officers are receiving treatment after they were on Friday injured following an attack by heavily-armed bandits in Meru.

General Service Unit (GSU) officers stationed at Mariara were at around 12:30pm attacked by approximately 300 bandits believed to be Turkana tribesmen.

According to a police report filed at Ndumuru Police Station in Meru County and seen by Citizen Digital, officers from Astu Bullu went to offer reinforcement but also came under heavy gunfire.

Six officers from Astu Bullu sustained injuries during the attack and were taken to the Isiolo Referral Hospital for treatment.

Four GSU officers from Mariara were also injured and were taken to Maua Methodist Hospital.

The ten were each shot in various places ranging from hands, arms, thighs, abdomen, and waist.

Police patrol has since been intensified within the area as investigations continue.
