Sudan’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) has violated the UN arms embargo on neighboring South Sudan by supplying weapons, according to the panel of experts that monitors the embargo.

The GIS transferred three shipments consisting mostly of Kalashnikov-type assault rifles and related ammunition to Lieutenant General Akol Koor Kuc, the director general of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service (NSS), the panel said in its latest report, which was released on 30 April.

The weapons were delivered by an Antonov An-74 transport aircraft operated by Green Flag Aviation, a Sudanese company the panel said is controlled by the GIS.
