MARQUS DENG (Staff Reporter)-JUBA- 21th MAR 2020-At around 10.45 pm Juba time on Friday 20th, 2020, a 25-year-old medical student at the University of Juba was stabbed to death by his girlfriend at Uptown Bar in Hai Jalaba Juba. The deceased is identified as Joseph Magong Mel, a 2nd-year student pursuing his bachelor’s at the famous public university. The suspect is identified as “Mary J Queen” as she’s famously known on social media Facebook.
According to eyewitnesses present at the scene, the suspect summoned the deceased outside of the club for a talk and from there, things spiraled out of hand.
“This lady came in, phoned Jose to come outside of the club and when the deceased reached up to her, she pulled out a knife stabbing him twice on the shoulder and the chest,” he says, ” The deceased then ran several meters away where he fell to the ground”, adds the eye-witness.
The suspect is said to have followed the deceased where he’d fallen, she stabbed him further.
The suspect got apprehended by security agents on trying to plea the crime scene. she’s been detained at Juba Police Station, near prisons pending investigation by police detectives.
According to close friends of the deceased, the couple was in a fragile relationship back home in their home state prior to the deceased relocating to Juba for studies. At one point, the suspect had actually gone to the deceased’s family claiming to be a wife- her efforts proved futile though because the deceased’s family rejected her saying their son was “young” and he was far in line for marriage since he’d elder brothers.
According to Dinka tradition, people get married as per the line of birth- an elder son gets married first, followed by the rest. That was done to distribute the little family resources equitably among the family members.
She has allegedly been attacking the deceased’s other girlfriends whom he was in alleged courtship with. They were in a frosty relationship when the incident happened.
The deceased left his friends for the club at their hostels in Hai Thoura, Juba Suburb, where he resides. Close friends to the deceased claim the suspect had been tracking him and she was waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
The deceased’s last Facebook post came on Friday 20th, March at 18.56hrs where he was thought to aim a dig at the frosty relationship he had with the lady. “Imagine the world without ladies who lie to us”, was the quote of the post.
The deceased’s described by his friends to have been an intelligent and humble boy. He’ll be remembered for his hilarious posts on Facebook.
