Nakuru East MP David Gikaria has been arrested and is being held at the Central Police station in Nakuru town.

The MP, according to reports, was arrested in connection with a violent round of protests that brought Nakuru town to a standstill on Monday.

Traders and Matatu on Monday engaged police officers in running battles, protesting the move by the county government to evict Matatus from the town’s CBD.

Videos shared widely detailed the protests and showed officers lobbing teargas at the protesters.

A police truck’s windshield was broken during the protests by demonstrators who decried alleged mistreatment by the county government.
