Residents of Garuga in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District are in shock after an unidentified assailant shot dead one person and injured another in a robbery incident that happened on Friday.
The assailant shot dead Isaac Sebiina a Boda Boda cyclist and injured Mr Bill Joseph Kasongode, whom Sebiina was transporting back home together with his wife Ms Irene Namajje.
Mr Enock Mwanje, a brother to Mr Kasongode, said he got a call from his sibling at around 8 pm informing him that he had been shot.
“He informed me that some thug had shot them along Mangarita close. We tried to get people to take him to the hospital. At the moment, he had not realized that Sebiina had died,” he said.
Mr Mwanje said they suspect that the same assailants returned around 4 am on Saturday and broke into the supermarket located a few metres away from where the shooting incident happened.
Mr Mwanje said Ms Namajje was not shot at since she surrendered her bag containing money as ordered by the assailant.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigire, confirmed the incident saying investigations into the matter are underway.
“Police in Entebbe are actively investigating an aggravated robbery and murder of a Boda Boda rider Isaac Sebiina. It’s alleged that Sebiina and the two passengers were stopped by the armed assailant who demanded Namajje’s bag containing about Shs200,000, but the two men resisted which prompted the assailant to release bullets which injured Kasongode and killed Sebiina on spot,” he said.
Mr Owesyesigire said Namajje told police that the same unidentified assailant has robbed her before, but she never reported the incident to police.
“We are relying on the information she has given us to trace the suspect and have him arrested,” he said.
Mr Oweyesigigire said Sebiina’s body was taken to City Mortuary in Mulago for postmortem and Kasongode is currently receiving treatment at Kisubi Hospital.
