JACK IRON (MAYFIELD) A lengthy email addressed to the Northern Corridor Morning Post Chief Atem Gai de Dut was received by the news website last night (4 am Brisbane Time). The email introduced the “500 Disciples”, a secret intelligence organization that claims it has up to 500 plus highly educated and trained South Sudanese members recruited from the USA, Canada, Finland, Australia, and New Zealand as well as from the ranks and files of the South Sudan National Security Service. The lengthy email (equivalent to 4 pdf pages) outlines the disappointing conduct of the South Sudanese government officials and their inability to govern with all the resources at their disposal.
The author, codenamed Disciple SR2398Z, instructed the Northern Corridor Morning Post to be at liberty to report on the 500 Disciples but not to pass the email on to authorities as they will release a full manifesto in due time. The email went on to provide details on President Kiir’s conduct of militarizing the country. Incidents that have been mentioned in the email include the death of Bol Akeen, an associate of Paul Malong, killed in broad daylight in Juba, and Dr. Diing Chol Dau Diing who was gunned down by ”unknown gunmen” as some examples of how the South Sudanese State is destroying its human capital and failing its people in the process.
The email alleges that the president militarised the country and started a war in order to cover up the Dura Saga, creating chaos leading to political instability, giving Riek Machar just the right tools to create such insecurity in the country that has crippled the economy of the nation for nearly a decade. Infrastructure is non-existent, healthcare is dire, and public institutions are led by people who can barely establish and execute public projects that would create employment and lift many out of poverty, the email reads.
The email pointed out individual ministers and what it terms as President Salva Kiir’s ‘foot soldiers’, people within the National Security the ‘500 Disciples’ believe are directly responsible for the chaos in the country and will be targeted with lethal methods not seen before in the country. The email, structured in a manner that prioritized an elaborate account of the failure of the government, and ends with the methods the organization will use, is the first real threat to public servants running the Republic of South Sudan.
For the safety of the named individuals, Northern Corridor Morning Post will not publish names or job descriptions or why the 500 Disciples is holding such people responsible for the poor state of the country. The organization, according to the email, has more than a quarter of a billion dollars necessary for recruiting field agents and their handlers, provide them with covert training, train them the art of ‘fast destruction’, and the critical impact of “fast reconstruction”.
The elaborate email concludes with a tribute to the late John Garang and his unwavering commitment to all his people and blames his death on people “unable to govern, unwilling to learn, and ungifted to lead.”
The organization says it will monitor government officials and their conduct, and they should practice caution in their behavior, and maybe if there are essential matters that different ministries want to accomplish, to bring them into the public domain to prove themselves worthy before the South Sudanese people. It is unclear when the 500 Disciples Manifesto, coded 5DIS MANIFESTO, will be released.
