Tomori, NCMP – In a press statement released by the Family of Gen. Bior Ajoh Bior, seen by NCMP dated August 26, the family explained that there is baseless information circulating regarding the death of the General who was executed in the Shirkat area of Juba.

In the statement, the family explained that the day before the General was killed, in the morning of August 19, at about 8:15 am, someone identified as Andrew Apukic Anthiem, a sergeant belonging to the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (Air Defense Unit) said to the general “You are Bior Ajoh that I have been looking for.” He immediately pulled out his gun that he had hidden near the vicinity in a sack and pointed it to the General’s stomach and said, “I am going to kill you to avenge Lual Marine.” Some people who were near the area rushed in and separated the two.

On the same day after this incident, General Bior notified his colleagues by phone, including senior police officials, and then proceeded to Gumbo Police Station, where he opened a police case. The case is currently in the police files registered under report number 05, August 19, 2020, with the following statement.

“A soldier has threatened to kill me. He said he has been searching for me, and if he finds me, he will kill me to avenge Lual Marine who was killed in June 2020 in a land dispute”, Bior Statement to Gumbo Police August 19, 2020.

As a response, the police immediately issued an arrest warrant to be arrested, but he could not be found immediately.

On August 23, 2020, Gen. Bior went to Chess Club, where senior army and police officers usually gather in the evening to play cards and chess, to chat with his colleagues.

Eyewitnesses who were the say that Apukic Anhiem, who had threatened to kill him, came and opened fire. Most of the people who were there ran for their lives. But the assailant concentrated his aim on Gen Bior, shooting him four times and he died on the scene.

A short while later, family members and relatives were informed that Gen. Bior had been shot. Family members and other relatives near the scene at the time of the incident tried to rush in to see for themselves, but they were sprayed with bullets by the killer as some other soldiers hid by among the trees.

According to the statement, the incident happened within the military barrack premises, the gunman remained at the scene for three hours, standing over the body of General Bior, and there was no intervention from soldiers who were nearby.

The press statement further points out that these are some of the events that happened before, during, and after Gen. Bior’s death. The family echoed it that truth about the General’s death should not be distorted.

The family urged the general public not to speculate unnecessary information beyond the press statement’s facts.

The statement was concluded with obvious clarity warning that the family is not planning any violent behavior against anybody including the family, clan, and community of the suspect and that the General’s family strongly believe in the rule of law and hope that the government, as usual, will take necessary measures and do General Bior Ajoh Bior justice he rightfully deserves.
