A Kenyan motorist has been fined by a court after being filmed speeding off on a highway with a screaming female passenger while one of the car doors was open.
The guy who was caught on camera driving away with a screaming lady has been fined Sh70,000 and his driving license has been revoked.
The National Police Service (NPS) said on Monday that the suspect, James Maina Kibe, pled guilty to a charge of careless driving in connection with the incident, which occurred along Thika Road.
The NPS reminded motorists to always drive cautiously and follow road safety laws for their own and other road users’ safety.
“We would want to remind motorists against irresponsible driving, which puts passengers and other road users in considerable danger,” they stated.
Following widespread outrage over the event, police were obliged to make a statement explaining that the woman in question had disputed with her boyfriend about spending the night together.
In the footage, the woman can be seen begging for assistance while the door of a racing Probox is open.
According to reports, the woman was picked up at Kenyatta University and was being brought to Thika when the video was captured, which many regarded as abduction.
Police, on the other hand, reported that the incident included a pair (boyfriend and girlfriend) who had a fight after a social trip in the city.
“The woman wanted to get off the plane and go home, but the boyfriend insisted on spending the evening with her.” “During the struggle, a member of the public captured the video, which was widely disseminated online,” according to the statement.
According to the authorities, the couple reported to the police on purpose in order to avoid police intervention.
