Arsenal lose, mathematically crowning Manchester City as champions

It’s official, Manchester City is 2022/23 Premier League champions after Arsenal‘s 1-0 loss away to Nottingham Forest means the Gunners officially cannot catch the Cityzens anymore.
After leading the way for much of the campaign, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal ran out of steam at the business end of the season and, ultimately, Manchester City‘s expensively acquired squad proved too strong.
Relentless Manchester City win the title
As the Gunners stumbled, Pep Guardiola‘s side have been relentless and Manchester City have won their last 11 Premier League games.
That sort of form is hard to compete with, but Arsenal hasn’t done themselves too many favors, unable to remain consistent when it mattered most, winning just four of their 10 Premier League games since being knocked out of the Europa League by Sporting CP in March.
Nottingham Forest earn a much-needed win
Saturday wasn’t just about Arsenal and City, though. In fact, at this point, the title was a mere formality, as it was all but inevitable that Guardiola‘s team would get over the line at some point.
If anything, this was a bigger game for the home team as Nottingham Forest found themselves at the wrong end of the table and desperate to get points on the board to avoid being dragged into a relegation scrap.
This win puts them four points ahead of Everton and level on points with West Ham who are one above them in 16th.
Crucially, Forest are also now six points clear of the drop zone, although Leeds and Leicester could narrow that gap on Sunday and Monday respectively.
The winning goal came early in the first half from a devastatingly effective counter-attack for Forest. A slack pass from Martin Odegaard was pounced upon by Morgan Gibbs-White, who drove forward with intent before slipping a well-timed pass to Taiwo Awoniyi.
Nottingham Forest can now get excited about playing in the Premier League in 2023/24, when Manchester City will be the reigning
