Under the theme “Leveraging on the Regional Policing Capabilities on Improving the Fight against Terrorism and Transnational Organized Crimes,” the annual gathering has brought together Police Chiefs from across the East African region.
The meeting is being chaired by the Vice President of Burundi, Eng. Prosper Bazombanza, alongside Xu Datong, the Deputy Minister of Public Security from the People’s Republic of China. Notably, the Directors of Interpol in the region are also in attendance.
One of the main highlights of the event was the official handover of the EAPCCO chairmanship from the outgoing chairperson, Commissioner Demelash Gebrelmichael of the Ethiopian Federal Police, to the incoming chairman, Inspector General Frederic Budomo of the Burundi National Police.
This transition in leadership demonstrates the continued commitment to collaboration and effective policing within the region.
The chosen theme of the meeting emphasizes the importance of leveraging regional capabilities to counter terrorism and transnational organized crimes effectively.
By fostering cooperation among the participating countries, EAPCCO aims to enhance their collective response to these critical security challenges.
Through sharing best practices, intelligence, and resources, the police chiefs and Interpol directors in attendance can work together to strengthen their preparedness and response strategies, ultimately ensuring the safety and security of the region.
The EAPCCO annual general meeting serves as a crucial platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the promotion of regional security initiatives.
It provides an opportunity for member countries to discuss common issues, develop joint strategies, and build strong partnerships in their ongoing efforts to combat transnational crimes and terrorism effectively.
