Egypt claims that the call-up of Mohamed Salah has been thwarted.

According to the Egyptian Football Association, Liverpool has refused to let Mohamed Salah to play in World Cup qualifiers next month because he would be subjected to a 10-day coronavirus quarantine upon his return to England.

According to British media, the club would also not allow three Brazilian talents, Roberto Firmino, Allison, and Fabinho, to join their national squad.

Other European clubs are said to be mulling similar measures for players visiting red-listed nations, placing them on a collision path with football’s international governing body.

Fifa abolished an exception introduced last year during the Covid-19 epidemic that enabled clubs to refuse to release players for international duty if travel restrictions were enforced.
