Equatoria Teak Company trained 171 coffee farmers in Nzara on a coffee plantation.
The distribution of coffee plantation seedlings has been started in Nzara and Yambio counties by the State Minister of Agriculture. It was launched in partnership with the Equatoria Teak Company and the Dutch government.
Agriculture Minister Alison Barnaba said this will boost the economy in Nzara and Western Equatoria State. Minister Alison said that today she is distributing coffee plantations seed to farmers and individual progressive farmers in Western Equatoria so that they can make money. This is a way to improve the economy there.
A commissioner of Nzara County thanked Equatoria Teak for initiating the distribution of coffee plantations in the county. Zizi said the initiative would boost the economy.
“This is an important day for us because the coffee plantation is like bringing back what we once had in Nzara County. Although Nzara has a tradition of producing coffee, we weren’t able to continue due to past shortcomings,” Zizi said.
“But we are thankful to Equatoria Teak Company, which has helped us with this program. As a government, we will continue to work with them for the development of Nzara,” he said.
The company has also planted 1000 coffee seeds for farmers in Nzara and Yambio, according to director James Fandas.
“We are humbled to introduce this product in Nzara County, which will last for three years. We have already trained 171 farmers on the skills of growing coffee and distributed the best types of coffee seedlings. “143 farmers have already cleared their land for planting, and 236 are being trained,” Fandas said.
