Fear as Battle in Jonglei Fails to Cease

NCMP – Fear has been imposed on locals around Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administrative Area borders as clashes intensify according to senior officials of the two areas.
According to Jonglei State Information minister, John Samuel Manyuon, the civilians are still in fear due to continuous attacks in the area. He reveals that the attack carried out recently was by armed criminals from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area and it has caused fear in half of the surrounding area.
“In other areas of Jonglei, we are getting disturbances in Uror, there is not a single day that passes without an attack in the areas of Motot, Pulchol, Pieria, and Paritet”, Manyuon said.
For his part, the Information minister for GPAA Abraham Kelang Jiji refuted claims made by the Jonglei Information minister. Kelang says all that is said about GPAA youth are plain lies because their youth stay in their land and they are busy with the attacking days happening in their area.
Since it started on 25th December 2022, the youth have been busy in Lekuangole and Gamuruk counties. Even on January 3rd, 2023, we had another attack in Nyargem”, Kelang added.
In December last year, it should be remembered that a renewed communal conflict erupted between the armed youth from Jonglei State and Greater Pibor Administrative Area, and as a result, 56 people reportedly succumbed and dozens were injured.
According to a UN report, 30000 people were also displaced and that provoked the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces to send troops to the scene to intervene as well as return security to normalcy.
Asides from that, the two officials from both areas have also called upon armed youth from the respective areas to Cease hostilities for Peace to reign in the country.
