FIFA President Unveils Kigali Pele Stadium in Honor of Brazilian Legend

FIFA President Gianni Infantino unveiled the Kigali Pele Stadium on Wednesday, dedicated to the legendary Brazilian footballer who passed away in December of last year. The stadium, which initially bore the name Kigali Regional Stadium, has a seating capacity of 22,000 and will be used for multi-sporting events.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place on the sidelines of the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali, was graced by President Paul Kagame. In his remarks, President Kagame thanked Infantino for giving Rwanda the opportunity to honor Pele by naming the stadium after him. Infantino expressed his belief that naming the stadium after Pele was the best way to honor his memory and contributions to football.
“Pele may have left us, but he will always remain with us,” said Infantino, adding that Pele’s legacy will continue to inspire the youth to pursue their dreams in football. The naming of the stadium in honor of Pele is expected to inspire the country’s young footballers to aim for greatness and cement Rwanda’s status as a growing hub for football development in Africa.
