Former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah’s Body Arrives

The corpse of the late Speaker of the House, Jacob Oulanyah, has arrived at Entebbe International Airport from Seattle, Washington.
The Ethiopian Airlines jet carrying Oulanyah’s coffin arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 1:57 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022.
The coffin was wrapped in the Ugandan flag upon arrival before being met by the Vice-President, HE Jessica Alupo, Speaker Anita Among, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, and other dignitaries.
According to the Chief Justice, the coffin was eventually brought to the Entebbe VVIP lounge in full honors, with performances from the Bwola dancers, a royal traditional Acholi dance that is generally used to greet famous individuals.
As the coffin was unloaded at the lounge, mourners clutched on to one other for strength and bravery.
When the corpse was formally received, Rev Fr. Godfrey Loum, Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Uganda, conducted a brief prayer session before handing over the coffin to A-Plus Funeral Service for future care.
In a short press conference, Vice President Alupo reiterated the President’s opinion that Oulanyah would be given a state burial.
“We have officially received our late brother’s corpse.” We do, in fact, accept the body with great regret and anguish. He will be given a state funeral by the government. “Because he was a national leader, his life and work had a national significance,” Alupo added.
She urged the people to be together throughout this time of mourning until his last day, when he will be put to rest in Lalogi, Omoro District, on Friday, March 8, 2022.
