Meet the eight-year-old Ugandan rapper raising awareness about poverty – one note at a time.

Eight-year-old Patrick Ssenyonjo, known as “Fresh Kid”, is a Ugandan rapper who tries to raise awareness about poverty in his country through music.

Fresh Kid become something of a sensation online, after he was first discovered in 2018 in a local bar in Luwero, a district in the central region of Uganda.

He was then swiftly signed to Kampala-based De Texas Entertainment and released a number of songs.

His single Bambi, which was released in April last year, has now passed 200,000 views on YouTube.

“Music has helped me a lot,” Fresh Kid said. “I have earned some money from music. It has given me an admirable life, I have also made friends and it has gotten me to a good school and I am supporting my family.”
