General Court Martial Sentences A SSPDF Officer To Death

Advancements about the SSPDF Officer who was found guilty of murdering three Syrians and one local have it that he was sentenced to death on Friday by the General court martial that sat in Juba.
The convict known as Yak Garang Yak was charged under section 83 of the SPLA Act 2009, read together with section 206 of the South Sudan penal code Act 2008, section 83 read together with 327 for damaging a vehicle plus an act that deals with disobedience of lawful orders.
It should be remembered that Yak’s offense was termed as first-degree murder after he admitted during the hearing that he had killed the Syrians who he worked with at the construction site after having a disagreement with his boss concerning allowance increments which he didn’t meet.
The president of the general court-martial known as Maj. Gen. Majok Micheal Chan said that the court found Yak guilty of premeditated murder after perusing the evidence presented by witnesses plus the confession of the accused and he was sentenced to death by the firing squad.
“The convict Private Yak Garang Yak is dismissed from SSPDF with effect from 3rd March 2023 and is sentenced to death by firing squad.” He said.
He further noted that the convict has a right to appeal the court’s ruling within 15 days which his defense team William Johnson Dut said they will do within the stipulated time.
