Harambee Starlets with a landslide win over South Sudan to progress in AWCON Qualifiers.

Harambee Starlets hammered South Sudan 7-1 in the second leg of their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations first round, second leg qualifiers to advance to the second round on a 5-1 aggregate.
Kenya national women’s football team Harambee Starlets has taken a huge step towards qualifying for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) after thrashing debutants South Sudan 7-1 at Nyayo Stadium.

Skipper Mwanahalima Adam and substitute Jentrix Shikangwa struck twice each while Janet Moraa, Neddy Atieno and Lydia Akoth were also on target as Kenya dispatched South Sudan in the lop-sided tie.
Key Moment
A handball by a South Sudan defender in the 37th minute to give Harambee Starlets a penalty which Mwanahalima Adam rose to cooly convert and give Kenya the lead. Until then, Bright Starlets had defended well.
This goal opened the floodgates of goals with Harambee Starlets ending up putting seven goals past them.
Memorable Stats
- No booking in the entire match despite 21 fouls committed.
- Harambee Starlets won 8-1 in the first leg bringing the aggregate score to 15-1
- South Sudan had only two shots on target in the entire match.
- South Sudan were the hosts of the match despite it being played at Nyayo stadium in Kenya. No stadium in Sm Sudan is approved by CAF to host an international match.
Star of the Match
Mwanahalima was a thorn in the flesh of South Sudan defenders. Partnering well with Neddy and Shikangwa. She could track back to help in defence, which was a rare occasion.
She ended up with a brace and an assist in the match.
