Local officials in Abyei Administrative Area stated on Sunday that over the weekend, youngsters believed to be from Warrap’s Twic County invaded Mading-Acueng hamlet near Abyei town, killing 18 people, including a six-year-old child, and injuring 11 others.
According to Ajang Deng Miyen, the Abyei communications minister, the Twic youth stormed the village at 2 a.m. and were pursued by the Abyei young, resulting in fights in the villages of Malou and Athony.
“What occurred was that on Friday night about 2 a.m., youth from Twic County stormed Mading Acueng and Agany and murdered seven individuals, including a six-year-old kid,” he said.
“Women and the elderly were also slain or injured.” During Saturday evening battles near Athony, eight more individuals were injured.”
Bulabek Deng Kuol, Abyei’s paramount chief, acknowledged the assault and said that the attackers arrived at night when it was pouring.
“They came yesterday (Saturday) and attacked Mading Acueng and Agany Acueng when people were sleeping and it was pouring and murdered seven people, including a kid and her nine-year-old sister,” he claimed. “A couple was slaughtered in their hut, and three other men, including an Aweil resident, were killed in a home.”
Chief Deng accused the SSPDF of cooperating with Twic County youngsters.
“In the morning of Saturday, these Twic young were pursued by Abyei youth, and they battled in Abiyual village, where three people were injured from the Abyei side, and the assailants fired randomly in Athony village, but they did not kill anybody.” “The perpetrators were dressed in SSPDF uniforms,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malek Ring, the executive director of Twic County, acknowledged the occurrence and branded it a criminal crime.
“I learned about this event last night and went to Nyin-Deng Ayuel this morning,” he added. “What occurred was that 15 armed teenage criminals from Twic went to Abyei’s Mading-Acueng hamlet and fought there.”
“On Saturday evening, the criminals reunited in Athony, and another struggle ensued, in which 11 Twic County residents were slain and three more were injured.” The injured have been sent to Mayen Abun Medical Center.”
