Japan’s Gift of Water Brings Hope to South Sudan: President Kiir Expresses Gratitude for Ongoing Support

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has expressed gratitude towards the government and the people of Japan for their tremendous assistance and support towards the people of South Sudan.
The appreciation was extended during the inauguration of the water supply system in Juba, where Kiir unveiled a new water treatment plant at the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum, under the theme of safe and clean drinking water.
In his address, President Kiir lauded Japan’s ongoing support of South Sudan, stating that this is the second gift from the Asian nation to the people of South Sudan. “We received the gift of freedom bridge from them last year, and today, they have given us the gift of water,” remarked President Kiir.
The South Sudanese President went on to say that the Japanese aid is of great significance and will have a real impact on people’s lives. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the government and people of Japan for their unwavering support towards South Sudan.
Following the inauguration, President Kiir instructed the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation to efficiently manage, maintain and operate the water supply system for the benefit of the people of South Sudan. The concerned Minister, Honorable Pal Mai Deng, highlighted that the provision of clean water to the general population in the country is a significant step towards achieving the sustainable development goals of the government.
The provision of safe and clean drinking water is a vital need for any country, and Japan’s contribution towards fulfilling this requirement in South Sudan is laudable. The Japanese aid will go a long way in addressing the water scarcity challenge in South Sudan, thereby improving the overall living standards of the people in the country.
