Jebel Aulia Dam Remains Safe Despite Destruction of Movable Bridge in Sudanese Clashes

On November 18, 2023, a senior official from the Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation confirmed that the Jebel Aulia dam remains undamaged despite the destruction of a movable bridge.
The bridge, located 44 kilometers south of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, connected Khartoum and Omdurman.
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had previously traded accusations regarding the destruction of the bridge.
The two parties have been involved in clashes in the Jebel Aulia region for several days.
The RSF sought control over the stone bridge, which was constructed in 1937 as an alternative to the Shambat Bridge connecting Omdurman and Khartoum Bahri. The Shambat Bridge had already been destroyed on November 11.
Despite the destruction of the movable bridge, it is reassuring to know that the Jebel Aulia dam remains unharmed, ensuring continued stability for the local area.
