Joint statement of IGAD, UNMISS, RJMEC, and CTSAMVM on current R-ARCSS challenges

IGAD, UNMISS, RJMEC, and CTSAMVM welcome and commend the Presidency of the Republic of South Sudan’s resolution dated 10 August 2021 reiterating its commitment to the implementation of the R-ARCSS and requesting, among other things, an immediate cessation of hostilities within the SPLM/A-IO and an amicable resolution of the existing dispute.
This proactive move demonstrates the leadership of the Republic of South Sudan’s capacity to address the country’s problems and issues and its determination not to relapse into war.
The Revitalized Agreement’s backbone is Chapter Two of the R-ARCSS on the Permanent Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements.
Without further delay, complete implementation of this part of the Peace Agreement is anticipated to substantially decrease instances of violence and conflicts across the nation while also creating an enabling atmosphere for implementing the other Chapters of the R-ARCSS.
As a result, the unification and redeployment of the Necessary Unified Forces is a top priority, and IGAD, UNMISS, RJMEC, and CTSAMVM encourage the R-TGoNU to allocate and make available the necessary financial and material resources for this endeavour.
IGAD, UNMISS, RJMEC, and CTSAMVM are prepared and committed to assisting the Parties in addressing existing difficulties related to the Transitional Security Arrangements and achieving the R-prompt ARCSS’s complete implementation.
In this respect, IGAD, UNMISS, RJMEC, and CTSAMVM have decided to strengthen their collaboration to coordinate and synchronize activities for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable transition in South Sudan.
