Kenyan authorities have arrested a Ghanaian national for allegedly fraudulently obtaining $83,000 (£58,490) from a senior manager of a popular money lending agency.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the female manager at Tala, a digital lender that issues small loans to Kenyans, met the Ghanaian called Victor Anane through an online dating site.
The investigators say the Ghanaian poses as a preacher and takes advantage of women seeking love online.
The DCI said the suspect told the Tala manager that he was a preacher “who performs miracles and who would help [her] get promoted at her work place instantly”.

The authorities also recovered fake currency and materials used to print fake money.
Security officials say some of the money given to the man was allegedly taken from Tala’s accounts.
The victim discovered she had been conned when she visited the suspect’s house at an estate outside the capital city Nairobi, and alerted the police.
The suspect is set to appear in court on charges of obtaining money by false pretences.
