Kenya’s imports from Uganda down 34% due to trade wars

The value of goods imported from Uganda fell 34% in the eight months to August as the trade war between Kenya and its neighbors restricted the flow of goods.

In April, Trade Cabinet Secretary Betty Mina and her Ugandan counterpart agreed that Uganda would export 90,000 tonnes of sugar to Kenya as soon as the country’s verification mission was completed.
The next trade delegation to Kampala will come when Uganda has access to the Zambian market and provides them with a replacement for their products.
Lato’s milk producer Pearl Dairies ensured an annual supply of milk to Zambia after Kenya was severely affected by the suspension of product exports in 2019.
The company is Uganda’s largest dairy processor with a daily capacity of 800,000 liters.
