Kiir reconstitutes CoS, rescinds the mandate of some lawmakers, reinstates elected legislators

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit issued a Republican Decree this evening revoking the appointment of several members of the transitional National legislative assembly. President Salva Kiir also reconstituted the Council of States, paving way for a functional national legislature.
This follows outrage from some members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) who were elected to parliament in 2010 but were not reappointed when Kiir reconstituted the legislature in May.
The president appoints members of the Upper House from his SPLM party, Dr. Riek Machar’s SPLM-IO party, and other opposition groups that signed the renewed peace deal.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit has revoked the appointment of Mary Nyanut Machar as the Member of Parliament representing Twic county in the National Assembly.
Among so many of the changes, Kiir re-appointed Victoria Adhar Arop Chom back to her position. President Kiir left out Mama Adhardit during the reconstitution of the parliament and named her daughter as successor.
