Mayen’s abuse of his wife should not be condoned – Women’s group

The South Sudanese Women Intellectuals Forum is asking the government to take appropriate action against Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Minister Peter Mayen Majongdit for allegedly assaulting and stabbing his wife.
“We strongly condemn this crime and urge the South Sudanese government to take appropriate action against the perpetrator,” a statement obtained by Sudans Post this morning said.
“The ladies of South Sudan cannot remain silent while such actions are committed by people who are meant to represent us as a nation and protect South Sudanese citizens,” it said.
They expressed disappointment at hearing a government official abuse women’s rights.
“South Sudanese women are disturbed by the fact that Hon. Peter Mayen, who is tasked with promoting women’s rights in our nation, is instead disrespecting and exploiting these rights,” the statement said.
They cautioned that any act of violence against women or any South Sudanese person is unjustifiable.
“The South Sudanese Women Intellectuals will continue to advocate for the protection of everyone’s rights from all kinds of abuse,” they said.
