MSF health worker killed, three other injured in Mayiandit County
Local authorities in Mayiandit county, Unity state, have confirmed that MSF health workers identified as Babek Gatluak Paul were killed and three others injured when gunmen from Koch county ambushed 200 Rubnor Boma cattle on Saturday.
Mayiandit County Commissioner Gatluak Nyang explained in a Radio Tamazuj report seen by NCMP on Monday that gunmen from Koch County had gone to Rubnor Boma to raid cattle and attacked Babek Gatluak Paul’s house.
“At 11 am on Saturday I received information that the boys from Koch County attacked cattle in Mayiandit County, killed this man (Babek) and took 200 cows from Rubnor Boma,” said Commissioner Nyang.
“I spoke to my CEO and he already saved and secured the situation at 1 p.m. The young people from Mayiandit went there and managed to return the 200 looted cows from the Koch district.
He said one of the three injured was being treated at the Doctors Without Borders health center in Leer County, while two others were being treated at the Mayiandit County health center.
He said calm had returned to the area. “Now there is no problem. We even spoke to District Commissioner Koch and he is very concerned about this incident.”
Commissioner Nyang said that, together with commissioners from Leer and Koch counties, they will take steps to improve the security situation in the region.
