MTN South Sudan supports the national basket team with SSP 65 million.

South Sudan’s basketball team ‘Bright Star’ has won at least SSP65 million ($100,000) from telecom giant MTN in celebration of their achievements in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers, according to a release.
On August 29, the squad beat its Arab Republic of Egypt counterpart 85-65 in a match played in Tunisia, bringing the world’s youngest nation to just one victory away from qualifying for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Following their triumph over Egypt, the squad was greeted at Juba International Airport upon return from Tunisia by hundreds of applauding civilians who regard the team as a unifying element in the politically divided country.
In a statement this evening, the cell provider announced that it had paid up a payment of SSP65 million to the basketball’s President Luol Deng as promised yesterday.
“Earlier today MTN Group Senior Vice President Ebenezer Asante Handed out a check of 65,000,000 million SSP Equivalent to 100,000 USD to South Sudan Basketball Federation President Luol Deng as the Sponsor of the National Basketball Team ‘Bright Stars’” MTN stated in the short statement.
