President Kiir forms Leer investigative committee.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir established an ad hoc committee to investigate the Leer incident, with Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, serves as its chairman.
The committee will examine the ongoing violence in Unity State’s southern region, particularly recent atrocities committed against innocent civilians in Leer County.
The formation of the ad hoc committee comes less than 48 hours after a group of young activists and parliamentarians rallied in Juba’s Freedom Hall against the horrific deaths of civilians in Leer County on Monday.
“Relieve the Unity State Governor and three county commissioners from Unity’s southern region,” the nonviolent protesters said.
In a republican order readout on the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Wednesday, President Salva Kiir Mayardit nominated Hon. Gatkuoth, as the Chairperson of the Investigative Panel into the Crimes Perpetrated Against the Civil People in Leer earlier this week, President Kiir Mayardit nominated Hon.
The investigating panel has been given 14 days to provide its final report to President Salva Kiir.
Additionally, the committee comprises national ministers, parliamentarians, and leading attorneys.
