President Kiir’s diplomatic efforts praised amidst the ongoing crisis in Sudan

As Sudan faces one of the worst crises in its history, President Salva Kiir of South Sudan has been commended for his diplomatic efforts to encourage dialogue between warring leaders in Sudan. A team from IGAD, led by its Executive Director Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, met with President Kiir in Juba on Wednesday to show their support.
Dr. Gebeyehu expressed gratitude for President Kiir’s continuous communication with the generals in Sudan to advocate for dialogue as the only way to end the crisis. He also noted that South Sudan is uniquely positioned to help Sudan achieve peace.
Despite the ongoing crisis in Sudan, President Kiir remains dedicated to ensuring peace not only in Sudan but in the whole region, as reiterated by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deng Dau Deng.
The efforts of President Kiir to encourage dialogue among warring factions in Sudan have been praised by IGAD, and a meeting has been scheduled for June 12 in Djibouti to discuss the next steps in the peace process.
