Reuben Madol Arol presented to parliament the long-awaited Constitution-Making Process Bill.

Reuben Madol Arol, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, presented the long-awaited Constitution-Making Process Bill, 2022, to parliament on Tuesday.
The Bill’s goal is to create a legislative framework that would pave the way for a permanent constitution-making process and the holding of general elections by the conclusion of the transition period. It will also ensure effective governance, constitutional democracy, and the rule of law.
Since the creation of the unity government in February 2020, the process has been delayed by almost a year.
“I thus humbly propose the Constitution-Making Process Bill 2022 to you for your discussion and enactment following its acceptance by the Council of Ministers in its Regular Meeting No.14/2021,” Minister Madol stated.
President Salva Kiir initiated the constitution-making process in May of last year.
According to the Revitalized Peace Agreement, if the constitutional modifications are approved by parliament, the 2018 peace agreement will be included into the national constitution.
In accordance with the peace agreement, a National Constitutional Amendment Committee was formed to drive constitutional revisions in the nation. The peace agreement’s parties are represented by the committee.
