Rwanda gear up for CHOGM 2022

As Rwanda prepares for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will take place from June 20 to 25, workers in the hotel industry are doing all they can to provide a memorable experience for the more than 5,000 delegates anticipated to attend.
According to the CHOGM Rwanda secretariat, six locations — mostly big hotels in the nation – will host various activities related to the global summit.
The Kigali Convention Center
With a seating capacity of 2,600 visitors and 650 parking spots, this dome-shaped auditorium at the King’s Palace is one of the biggest in the area.
Though it has not been formally announced, the building is scheduled to hold the CHOGM’s main meeting.
The auditorium has a seating capacity of 1257 square meters (13530 square feet) and two floors, making it ideal for big conferences, concerts, and meetings in Kigali.
This center, known as KCC, has amenities for business, recreation, and events. There’s also the ‘Auditorium Club,’ an elite Business Class Lounge, Piazza Bar, and Filini Restaurant, an Italian cuisine restaurant with a distinct blend of refinement and informal style.
KCC has been a premier events, continental, and worldwide events destination since its inception in 2016.
Intare Conference Center
The Rusororo-based Intare Conference Arena, which opened in 2017, is a big venue in Kigali for major conferences and meetings that can accommodate 2316 people.
From June 19 to 21, it is planned to host the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF), which will bring together youth from all 54 member nations of the organization.
The summit intends to utilize the Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) as the primary approach for Commonwealth youth participation since it is the highest decision-making forum for young people in the Commonwealth.
This event will bring together around 300 delegates, including two official youth representatives from each member country, to share ideas, create networks, and identify and discuss development concerns, challenges, and possibilities.
According to the CHOGM 2022 website, delegates will also agree on youth-led initiatives to minimize difficulties confronting young people and to offer chances to improve their potential.
Hotel Serena Kigali
The Serena Kigali Hotel is a five-star hotel in the city, providing meeting and conference facilities that can accommodate a variety of events. It contains an 800-person ballroom, a 500-person auditorium, and three conference rooms that can accommodate over 900 people.
Serena Hotel, located in the Central Business District (CBD), will host the Commonwealth Women Forum from June 20 to 21.
Its goal is to declare high-level support for gender equality and human rights and to guide top-level policy in these areas.
This forum is projected to draw 500 participants.
M-HOTEL
The majestic M-Hotel, set to open in 2021, is already one of Kigali’s top sites for traditional events. Its meeting rooms may hold up to 250 persons.
M-Hotel will host the Commonwealth People’s Forum on June 21 and 22, bringing together civil society members from throughout the Commonwealth to debate major problems confronting the Commonwealth’s people.
The facility is in what is known as the Lower Kiyovu site, a developing commercial sector only a few minutes from Kigali’s CBD.
Kigali Exhibition and Convention Village
The Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village is Rwanda’s largest tented event venue.
KCEV will host the Commonwealth Business Forum from June 21 to 23, which will be the first and biggest in-person meeting for Commonwealth governments and businesses since the onset of the Covid-19 epidemic.
The village contains 12 conference spaces that can accommodate a variety of events and is located in the CBD, just near to the Serena Kigali Hotel. The overall capacity of the property is 10,000, with individual conference room capacities ranging from 10 to 3,200 people.
Marriott Hotel in Kigali
The Kigali Marriott Hotel, which has 13 event rooms that can hold more than 650 people apiece, has also been nominated as a site for the CHOGM 2022.
Though no event is currently planned to be held here, due to its globally known brand, it will undoubtedly be one of the primary hosts to some of the VVIPs anticipated to attend the summit.
