South Sudan: A 12-truck government relief convoy has arrived in Unity state.

Officials in South Sudan’s Unity State have reported that a government humanitarian convoy of 12 trucks arrived in the state on Monday following the opening of the Unity State-Sudan route.
Speaking in a Radio Tamazuj report seen by NCMP, the interim information minister of Unity State, David Gai Jiejor, claimed the convoy carried over 5,000 bags of food and non-food goods for the disadvantaged people.
“We have received 5,810 bags of various sorts of food and non-food products which were first bought by the administration of Unity State, and these things have reached Unity State headquarters today,” he added.
Gai said the 75 kilometers road from Unity State to the Payagai border with South Kordofan has been under construction for about three months but that the opening would simplify access to products and services from Sudan.
The minister said the items will be transported across the state with a focus on the flood-affected communities.
He remarked that the food goods will be provided to roughly 300,000 displaced individuals who are in Bentiu, and that also includes the vast number of people who are in IDP camps in Bentiu town since they are part of the recipients.
According to him, this is the second humanitarian intervention by the state government for the needy in the state. Last month, he claims, the government purchased and distributed roughly 20,000 sacks of sorghum.
