South Sudan Commits to Sustainable Development Goals, Nears Completion of Voluntary National Review Process
The National Bureau of Statistics in South Sudan, under the leadership of Hon. Dr Augustino Ting Mayai, has joined other government and international agencies in discussions facilitated by UNDP to review the progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the Voluntary National Review (VNR) process.
The meeting centred on South Sudan’s commitment to achieving SDGs transformation, a priority outlined in the country’s revised national development strategy (2021-2024). The participants delved into the integration of SDGs into the national budget to solidify the country’s development plans and discussed various investment paths to ensure effective alignment with the SDGs.
During the meeting, Dr Mayai emphasized the crucial role of statistics in achieving the SDGs, underlining the need for each sector to assess relevant data sources and committing to facilitating the generation of relevant statistics to inform the VNR process.
The gathering concluded with a shared dedication to producing a Voluntary National Review that accurately reflects South Sudan’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants commended Dr. Mayai for his leadership in guiding the VNR process within the country.
