South Sudan: Eastern Equatoria State Authorities Refute Allegations Labeled Against Soldiers At Nadapal

Eastern Equatoria State authorities have refuted claims that the SSPDF soldiers deployed in Nadapal to diffuse ethnic tensions at the border area with Kenya fled and disappeared.
According to viral social media reports, the soldiers abandoned the area due to harsh living conditions doubled with a lack of food.
It is worth noting that an unspecified number of soldiers were deployed in the Nadapal area after the recent clashes between the Toposa community and the Rurkana Pastoralists of Kenya.
It should also be remembered that president Salva Kiir Mayardit on February 18, 2023, directed the governor of Eastern Equatoria State and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to form a committee to engage the Turkana county authorities on how to initiate dialogue and resolve border tension.
Patrick Oting, the information minister straightly dismissed the allegations and told our Journalists that the forces are still in Nadapal making patrols to monitor the security situation along the contested border area that is between South Sudan and Kenya.
“The forces are not stationed in one place, we still have the forces there and they are doing great as I can tell you. They are still there because they were deployed to provide security in that place”, he said.
