South Sudan: Prison Officer Loses Life Over Personality Arguments

On Tuesday, a jail officer was killed during an altercation with a local merchant at Rumbek Market. Ajuong Mathiang, the dead, got into a fist battle with Matoch Majok, a market vendor who sells garments.
Last Friday, the acting police spokesman in Lakes state, Lieutenant Colonel Moses Machuoc Bol, told the media that the incident is being examined and that they would find out the underlying cause of the fight very soon.
According to him, the accused and the dead were immersed in an unheard-of quarrel, and it was from this point that the merchant was able to seize and shatter the officer’s skull.
“The two were having an argument based on personalities, and no one knows what they were talking over.
But it was during the disagreement that this local shopkeeper became enraged and grabbed and shattered the jail officer’s neck. He died the next day at 3 p.m. after being transferred to Rumbek State Hospital.” He stated.
He further said that the suspect was quickly apprehended and transferred to Rumbek central county police for inquiry, and that the police investigator, Martin Machiek, verified that the investigation is still ongoing with the suspect in custody.
