South Sudan UAP Insurance Company Faces Accusations of Discrimination and Neglecting Employee Concerns

UAP Insurance Company in Kenya has come under scrutiny as approximately 70 South Sudanese employees voice complaints of unfair treatment and discriminative practices within the organization.
Allegations range from wage disparities between national and foreign employees to unresponsive management that disregards employee concerns. Despite attempts to resolve these issues through internal channels, the employees have reached an impasse, prompting them to stage a sit-in and seek intervention from the National Ministry of labour.
South Sudanese employees accuse UAP Insurance Company of paying them significantly lower salaries and offering fewer benefits compared to their foreign colleagues.
The reported payment of less than a hundred dollars compounds their grievances, while expatriate employees allegedly receive higher salaries and have their benefits upheld when leaving the company. This raises concerns about equitable compensation and fair treatment within the organization.
The employees claim that their attempts to address their concerns with direct supervisors and the company’s board have been met with indifference.
Despite forwarding their grievances to the board, the employees state that no action has been taken, leaving them frustrated and feeling neglected. This lack of response has compelled the staff to stage a sit-in strike, seeking resolution and demanding open communication from company management.
The employees express fear of retaliation and dismissals when attempting to voice their concerns, creating a culture of silence within the organization. This apprehension further highlights a lack of trust in the company’s commitment to addressing employee grievances, hence their decision to seek external support from the national ministry of labor.
Recognizing the impasse with internal actions, the South Sudanese employees have turned to the national ministry of labor for assistance. By involving external authorities in the dispute, the employees hope to facilitate a resolution and establish fair practices within the company.
Their proactive approach accentuates their determination to have their concerns heard and addressed in order to ensure a conducive and equitable work environment for all employees.
