Speaker of the Jonglei State Assembly changes committee leaders

Amer Ateny Alier, the speaker of the Jonglei State Transitional Legislative Assembly, signed a decree on Monday reshuffling the chairpersons of the house’s standing specialized committees.
According to a Radio Tamazuj report received by NCMP, Speaker Amer said that she made the revisions after consulting with the necessary leaders of the state’s peace accord parties.
Peter Deng Aguer, Buol Lual Mayen, Racheal Athiak Ruei, and Deng Chuol Bei have been appointed to chair the specialized committees on legislative and legal issues, culture, youth, and sports, roads and bridges, and general education and instruction, in that order.
They take the places of Hellen Akech Marial, Kuol Bol Ayom, Abiel Chan Anyang, and Koang Nyot Diu, as appropriate.
The speaker also selected Rebecca Nyadak Tut as chief whip of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA). James Yien Jal and Deng Bol were also named to replace Mary Ayom Deng and Gatluak Gabriel Jock as deputy chairs of the specialized committees on animal resources and tourism, and local government and security, respectively.
“I made the decision to alter the heads of the specialized committees and the deputies after consulting with the relevant parties since all heads are from the SPLM party and the two deputies are from the SSOA,” Speaker Amer said.
Wany Bum, the assembly’s spokeswoman, said that Nyadak’s selection as SSOA’s chief whip is in accordance with the peace agreement’s 35 percent affirmative action quota for women and reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to providing services to the people of Jonglei State.
