The mother of an infant rescued from a pit toilet in Rumbek has been arrested.

Following this, the baby was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit for immediate medical attention. Bol said that the child had been in the ICU since the rescue, but he couldn’t make it since he was hit and suffered a head injury.
According to the spokesperson for the state police, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the mother, has been arrested pending further investigation.
He confirmed that the suspect was in police custody awaiting an investigation. A local activist who preferred anonymity, however, explained that the child died due to inadequate medical care at the hospital.
When I heard that a child was rescued from a pit latrine, I went to the hospital and asked the management if I could adopt it, but they refused,” he said.
So, the child died from the head injury he received when thrown because of the lack of proper medical facilities at the hospital. South Sudan has seen an increase in cases of children abandoned at healthcare facilities.
