UN Warns South Sudan Faces Unraveling if Conflict in Neighboring Sudan Persists

JUBA, South Sudan – The United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has issued a grave warning, expressing concerns that the ongoing war in neighboring Sudan could have far-reaching consequences, potentially leading to the unraveling of South Sudan. Nicholas Haysom, the head of UNMISS, delivered a stern message to reporters in the capital, Juba, emphasizing the need for urgent action to halt the conflict.

“In that regard, we would certainly want to argue – loudly, strongly, repeatedly – that the war has to come to an end,” urged Mr. Haysom, underscoring the urgency of resolving the conflict.

According to the United Nations, close to one million people have been displaced due to the relentless fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
