Unregistered Boda-Boda riders are banned from Kampala’s five divisions.

Unregistered boda boda riders are forbidden from Kampala’s five divisions. Only boda boda riders who participated in the census will be permitted to operate in Kampala, stated Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda.
She claimed individuals enrolled will be taught, given a security code, and operate from stages. “On Monday (today), unregistered businesses will be banned from the city.
Only those registered by KCCA and the Kampala ministry will be permitted to operate in Nakawa, Kawempe, Rubaga, Makindye, and Central, she declared last Friday.
By Thursday last week, 35,000 had registered, but 40,000 were anticipated by Friday’s end.
The minister said she will engage KCCA, URA, and the Finance ministry before decreasing boda boda license fees.
She told street sellers to return to marketplaces.
Simon Kasyate, KCCA’s director of Public and Corporate Affairs, said the deadline of September 16 will not be extended.
“No deadline extensions. Those that haven’t enrolled should do so before September 16, 2022. Failure to do so might jeopardize their operating privileges in Kampala, said Mr. Kasyate.
The boda boda census ran from August 15 to September 30. First-week participation was low, therefore KCCA extended the deadline until September 16 to allow more riders to participate.
Some motorcyclists lacked essential paperwork and didn’t register. Others declined since they had already paid Shs60,000 to be registered. Dorothy Kisaka, executive director of KCCA, said the census would restore order and guarantee adequate rider planning.
Previously, the boda boda census was done in Kawempe, Rubaga, Makindye, Central, and Nakawa when students were on vacation.
All taxi operators that travel the Kampala-Entebbe route have been advised to move to Usafi market to establish order in the city.
“KCCA met with public transport sector partners and my government to simplify Entebbe stages that had moved to the former taxi park. Kampala minister Minsa Kabanda ordered all Entebbe taxis to operate in Usafi and Kisenyi.
She said the stakeholders meeting also determined that KCCA enforcement team eliminates all unlawful stages, notably on Entebbe Road, including those at Konrad Plaza and Kitabi, and should have a constant presence to dissuade illegal loading.
She said that the contractor and KCCA were urged to work around the flyover project to guarantee street illumination and pedestrian space for Usafi Park.
The section between Old Taxi Park and Usafi was a pickpocket hotspot, but security has been reinforced.
Old Tax Park chairman Karim Mulindwa requested the government to provide safe pathways near the Kampala flyover construction area.
